Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a 100% effective solution for hair loss including male pattern baldness, thinning hair in both men & women, receding hairlines, alopecia, and hair transplant scarring. This is a non-surgical permanent hair loss solution that works for nearly all candidates.
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that uses micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles that help thicken and restore the look of fuller hair in both men and women, give you the look of a short buzz cut or close-cropped hair for men, or camouflage transplant scarring.
At A NuReflection, our American Academy of Micropigmentation certified master practitioners will create the illusion of a close buzz cut on a bald head or add density and the look of thicker fuller hair on both men and women suffering from thinning or loss of hair.
Male pattern baldness starts as a receding hairline, but it quickly progresses into the horseshoe pattern. Men will lose the hair on the top of their heads, but we can create the follicle look throughout all of the balding areas. With this, a client can achieve the look of a full head of short-cropped hair immediately!
We can rebuild the hairline where men begin to develop widow’s peak as their hairline starts receding. With a receding hairline, men begin to lose their hair at the right and left corners of the hairline. SMP creates the perfect hairline for your face, head shape, and age.
If you’ve had a hair transplant (FUE/FUT) these types of scars can be very visible and limit hairstyle options. A large percentage of SMP clients seek the treatment to help camouflage strip and FUE/FUT scarring associated with prior hair transplants. We can help hide these scars for our clients.
The onset of Alopecia can occur suddenly and without warning where the body attacks its own hair follicles causing hair loss in patches. For those affected with any form of alopecia, rather than a wig or hair transplants, scalp micropigmentation can provide a permanent and natural-looking head of hair.
Female pattern hair loss begins with gradual thinning at the part line, followed by increasing diffuse hair loss radiating from the top of the head. For women SMP can restore the appearance of a thicker head of hair regardless of the length of the existing hair.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a widely popular non-surgical hair loss solution whereby minuscule deposits of pigment simulate hair follicles on the scalp. SMP, however, is extremely intricate and not a mere “hair tattoo.” We use different pigments and needles to accurately simulate tiny hair follicles.
SMP is indelible, however, the “dots” or injected pigment lessen in circumference very slightly over time. While this is not technically fading, the scalp will benefit from a touchup session every 4-5 years. This nearly imperceptible decrease in circumference happens because macrophage cells in the human immune system will gradually break up and disperse pigment from any procedure, albeit extremely slowly.
Expect some redness which subsides after a day or two.
Although each client’s pain sensitivity differs, SMP is much less painful than a traditional tattoo. SMP needles are so thin, some customers say they feel almost nothing. When asked to rate their pain levels, most SMP clients report 1-3 on a scale of 1-10.
This is a personal preference, but most clients opt for a buzzed look where they shave every 1-3 days.
Unlike traditional tattooing, SMP pigment is deposited near the epidermal layer rather than deep inside the dermal layer. SMP can be removed by laser much more easily than traditional tattoos.
We recommend always using some sort of sunscreen to retain the ink its longest. Should you choose not to use sunscreen, for the first 30 days you must cover your head with sunscreen or a hat.
Depending on the level of baldness, first treatment sessions generally take 1-3 hours while the second and third sessions take 1-2 hours. Each session is performed 1-2 weeks apart with the average client receiving 3 sessions.
In the first 4 days following treatment, avoid shaving, showers, sweating, scrubbing, shampooing topicals and long term exposure to sunlight. It’s okay to lightly dab the area with wet cloths, but do not soak the head. After 4 days, it’s okay to shower (lightly), shave, and use fragrance free moisturizers. After 10 days, you can resume your normal activities, but it’s still best to avoid long term sunlight for 30 days.
Yes, SMP can be removed with an electro-optic Q switched laser, which is used to heat and break up SMP pigmentation for easier absorption by phagocytes in the dermis. SMP is easy to remove because the pigment isn’t deposited as deep as traditional tattoo ink.
